Time to go
you’ve been here long enough
with your endless pale sky,
the chill you blew under your watch
has stiffened the earth.
I snatch away the frost from you and give birth
my pregnant swollen bulbs, papyrus peeling, stretching,
releasing triumphant speckles of egg yolk, and slices of radishes
Nubile offerings to nourish the ground, bring colour to its cheeks
Dampened mud softened from shattering showers greets
Lengthening arms covering the shame of the once hard earth with pointed green foils
Rolls of satin green ribbon unfurl from their tight coils
Itch of sprites, creatures jumbly, bumbly emerge slowly from the darkness
Scattering away, liberated from hibernation, no more bleakness
New harvest of birds, twitching and prodding for feed
The shrill songs soar and float above in cheer
The sun shines stronger
Spring is here.
